May Run

Women gather every year to the Song Festival Grounds to take part of the annual May Run. It's a 7 kilometer run for all your happy outdoor sports needs. And it's for women.. and some men too? I don't know, I haven't taken part for a while. I wanted to tell you a story of when I was young and dashing and dancing. I know, boys are dashing, but it's a great word, no?

The dance group I was a part of was called Panda. As in the bear. We were cute little pandas. For a few years in a row, Pandas took part of the May Run and performed there before or after the run with our little dances. And of course we all got a chance to take part in the run itself. Sometimes we would walk the 7km lap, sometimes jog, whatever we felt like. In the end you got a goodie bag with a Finnish womens magazine, a cap, and some energy drinks. Great success for kids to get anything for free!

One year my dear friend who now resides in Viljandi, was unable to perform with us because she had a broken toe and thus a cast on her leg complete with crutches. But she refused to stay at home and came to the May Run to cheer us on when we performed. Maybe even get some free stuff. When the Run was about to start, she decided to take part too. We thought it was a great idea! She took her crutches and hobbled away! Myself and another friend followed. Since 7 km was obviously too much for her, we took a shortcut down a hill, through bushes and what not and waited for a bunch of people to return from their lap and pass us. The girl with crutches finishing first would raise some suspicion, so we had to wait. Slowpokes! When enough people had passed, we began making our way to the finish line. When we were close enough for the people at the finish line to make out that she had crutches, she made it seem like she had tried VERY hard to conquer those 7 km with her crutches. People were going crazy cheering her on to make it to the finish line! And then she made it! Our little hero! Loving jogging so much, she would even go jogging with her cast on! Awesome! She should have gotten a medal for it! I'm surprised she wasn't in any of the papers covering the event. Then again, she might have been, I have never thought about this before...

Anyway, here was your story for the day. Hope you enjoyed it and learned some valuable life lessons.

  1. did the doctors really put a cast on her who foot for a broken toe? Here we just tape the broken one to a good one, and it eventually heals.

  2. hehehe, I don't actually remember the details since it was years ago. But she did have a cast which is way more fun than a lousy tape which gets you no automatic seating in crowded places ;)
